“A Greater Yes”–The True Story of Amy Newhouse–Movie Review

This is a faith challenging and soul inspiring movie. It came out in the summer of 2009. Anne Underwood plays Amy, Mike Norris plays the Father, and Bradley Dorsey plays her boyfriend.

Amy Newhouse is a 16 year old volleyball player at Pampa High School in Texas. She helped the team win the State championship. She founded the school’s first drugs, alcohol, and violence-free club—a prayer group. She says that God always answers her prayers. She believes there are a greater purpose, a greater dream, a greater challenge, and a greater hope in life. She knows that God has a plan for everything.

Even after Amy finds out she has cancer, she has a great outlook. The community rallies together with her passion. But, the passion of the community dies down as her cancer metastasizes. Then her cancer is finally gone after all the chemotherapy. As the community thinks everything is okay and that the battle was won, Amy discovers that the deadly disease has returned. Amy doesn’t give up. She continues with her prayers and continual hope. Some of the people lose hope, but the group continues on. Amy’s hope and trust in God never dies, she seems to be the only one. There are blessings involved. It’s a must see movie.

Titus 3:5-8 (NIV)—5) he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6) whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7) so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8) This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good! These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
