Her music displays a wealth of emotions and deep spiritual insights. There is an honesty and something that makes you think that she sees more than most people. She is a singer/songwriter who has been composing music from a very early age. She tours the nation and spreads the light and hope of God wherever she goes.
Ginny Owens is a three-time Dove Award winner, the founder of a non-profit organization (The Fingerprint Initiative), and, oh yeah, has been blind since the age of 3.
“If You Want Me To”
I first became familiar with Ginny Owens when I was in high school. She was part of the “Rocketown” project and I was deeply impacted by her story as well as her song, “If You Want Me To.” This song took quick root in my heart and I carried it with me in my travels over the next ten years.
The pathway is broken and the signs are unclear
And I don’t know the reasons why you brought me here
But just because you love me the way that you do
I’m gonna walk through the valley if you want me to
Ginny wrote this song after it seemed her dreams of becoming a music teacher had come to an end. Like many of us who have experienced what seemed to be the loss of a dream, she didn’t know what to do next.
Cause I’m not who I was when I took my first step
And I’m clinging to the promise You’re not through with me yet
So if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will go through the fire if you want me to
How many of us willingly say, “Yes, God, please send me trials.” Rather, we spent much of our energy trying to avoid pain and discomfort. What if we viewed trials as opportunities to grow closer to God? How much would that effect our levels of stress, our joy?
And it may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that’s not my home
But you never said it would be easy
You only said I’d never go alone
So when the whole world turns against me
And I’m all by myself
And I can’t hear you answer my cries for help
I’ll remember the suffering that your love put you though
And I will go through the valley if you want me to
We can take heart that although God never promises us a life of ease (indeed, there is a strong indication that following Him and rejecting the world and the things of the world will bring trials) He does promise to be with us for as long as we are abiding in Him (John 15).
An Album, a Book, and a Trip to Israel
I decided to search the web and find out what Ginny Owens has been up to these days. The search didn’t take very long (http://ginnyowens.com/) and I learned about some very exciting upcoming events.
Ginny has been preparing for the release of new album, scheduled for some time this year.
She has written a book that will be released in the first quarter of 2015.
This amazing artist is also working with Andrew Greer to host a ten-day trip to Israel. In fact, it seems there are still 20 seat available for anyone else who would like to join: http://ginnyowens.com/visit-israel-with-ginny/
What a blessing this is! Thank you Jenny.
