Regulating Our Children’s Entertainment Choices

God has given us a great responsibility in raising our children in a sin riddled world. Psalm 127:3” Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” They are precious in his sight, and they are a gift given by him to us. Therefore, we need to be proactive in monitoring our children’s entertainment choices. In a world filled with mind-numbing choices found in internet land this regulation becomes very critical.

Philippians 4:8” Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Fortunately, the Word of God does not leave us groping, in the dark, for guidelines on how to systematically approach this task of guiding our children in wholesome entertainment choices. Philippians 4:8 is a very good starting point in weighing whether entertainment is safe or not.

Remember ask yourself these questions when choosing entertainment for your children: Is this going to be right? Will God be honored in this? Is this excellent? Will my children praise and thank God from participating in this entertainment? If you can answer these questions with a clear conscience and you have the peace of God; then it is a sure bet that God will approve of this form of relaxation. Jesus said in John16:13“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

The Spirit of God is sent by Jesus to be our supernatural ally in helping us choose healthy entertainment options for our beloved children. He will always lead us into the right choices, the true choices. Parents, we know that the world will speak confusion and attempt to lead us into the wrong choices concerning entertainment for our little ones. The blessed Holy Spirit will always speak clarity to our spirits. I leave you with this remarkable truth: Isaiah 59:19” When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

  1. Philippians 4:8 is very instructive and (at times convicting). We just can’t go wrong when we focus on such positive things. This applies not only to what we take in from the world, but also what we bring into it by what we think and talk about. The Holy Spirit will always let us know. It’s up to us to heed His prompting.
