Keeping up with the latest trends in fashion this year may prove to be more painful than wearing your first pair of Stiletto’s. Straight off the Paris runway this past week included Riccardo Tisci’s visionary into the “Givenchy fashion house. His Paris Fashion Week show featured models with bejeweled faces”(Entertainthis.com).
Adorned with jewels placed under their eyes, in both nostrils, on each side of their lips, and below the chin, the models strolled onto the carpet with pride as their bling sparkled under the spotlight.
Apparently our society has moved from allowing the natural beauty of a woman to shine without any additions to concealing her entire face and calling it “art”. What message is Tisci’s vision sending out to women from youthful to the wise of age? Are we living in a time when the face of a woman is no longer considered a beauty of its own? Have we lost sight of appreciating what God has created?
Although piercings are not specifically condoned by God, He has given guidelines as to how we should treat our bodies. For our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We have been bought with a price through the blood of Jesus. Therefore, we are to honor God with our bodies(1 Corinthians 6:19).
Not only do we need to honor God with the body He has given us, but our beauty is not meant to be an outward focus, instead, it should come from within.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Peter 3:3)
When we seek to place beauty on our physical body, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)
External beauty fades away, but the inner beauty that only comes from our relationship with God the Father and His Son, is one that will never fade.
What are your inner beauty qualities that set you apart?
Great message! Thanks for the reminder to us gals!
