“WWJD” – Movie Review
Hebrews 13:2(KJV)—Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
The Dove Foundation says this 2009 movie is, “A powerful and thought-provoking story.” This movie is based upon the book, “In His Steps,” written by Charles M. Sheldon. This book is based on the verse 1 Peter 2:21(KJV)—“For hereunto were ye called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that ye should follow His steps.”
John Schneider portrays a shabbily dressed, down and out stranger that comes to their town in Raymond, California. He comes looking for work and no one helps him— the minister who had lost his faith in God wouldn’t even help him. After a few days of rejection, the stranger enters their church service and reprimands the congregation for not helping him, not even having a word of sympathy or comfort. He questions them on what is meant by the song they were singing about surrendering all and following Jesus; then he collapses onto the floor in front of everyone. This changes everything for their congregation and this town. It is an excellent movie showing how people can follow in Jesus’ footsteps and do what Jesus would do in all circumstances. This movie revolves around four main individuals—a singer, a newspaper editor, a wealthy philanthropist, and a minister who show remarkable changes in their lives and to better the town’s welfare.
Matthew 25:35-36(KJV)—35) For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; 36) naked and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
I think this movie was wonderful and it really hits real life situations that are relevant today. I give it 5 stars and I am glad I bought the DVD so I can watch it a lot. This movie is excellent for the whole family to learn compassion for strangers that are less fortunate than us.
