Be Careful Little Eyes

By Joel B.

Luke 11:34-35 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

The eye is the body’s source of light. When we’re ready to sleep, we simply close our eyes, and lights out. Of course, while we are awake it is necessary to guard that light that enters in through our eye gates, because it can have a serious effect on you not only physically, but spiritually as well.

Men, and even women, can become slaves to the things that are readily available for our viewing. Internet and television has made sexually explicit images a click away. Of course, there are other things besides sexually explicit images that we need to guard ourselves from, to include violence and hate related material.

The human body is designed to react favorably towards the opposite sex. We have hormones, and a special kind of amino acid called phenethylamine. Phenethylamine, also known as PEA, is that special chemical that gives us that euphoric feeling when we are attracted to the opposite sex. This is especially prevalent when you first meet someone and are going through that “puppy love” stage. So with all these chemicals working in our bodies, we have our work cut out for us with guarding ourselves for certain explicit materials.

So what do we do about it? Well we must flee from it! This is no easy task. To this day I fight with this monster because I see stuff on the Internet and television when I’m just looking for ordinary material or trying to watch an educational program. You see, people have adopted this “sex sales” mentality and it is not only destroying individuals; it is also destroying families and churches.

The Holy Bible tells us in Luke 5:28-29 that whoever looks at a woman to lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This is a serious matter. It then goes on to say that if one of your eyes is offending you, it is better to pluck it out than have your whole body cast into hell. Many people take this as hyperbole, but there is absolute truth in it. You are better off losing an eye in this life, than sending your soul to hell.

So you might be ready to argue that God wouldn’t allow that to happen, but then we have to further look at what the Holy Bible says, and in 1 Cor 6:9 it says that the sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Friends, I’m not here to judge you. I didn’t just write this article for you, I also wrote it for myself as someone who needs to take greater caution in guarding his eyes. I think it’s something that many of us struggle with and if we hold it in, it can eat us up inside. I for one am not interested in getting eaten alive by sin. So, if you are struggling and would like some prayer, don’t hesitate to hit the prayer button on the website. We’ll be happy to pray with you and break any bonds together. Thank you for reading and God bless.

  1. “Father God, the One who created all our parts and joined them into one body, may we not use these facilities to bring us into disgrace and show dishonor to you. Help us to be on-guard in the areas we venture into throughout our lives by starting out every day choosing to stay close to you, keeping our spiritual ears in-tuned to your voice. May we understand how important it is to hide your word in our hearts so that we do not compromise and sin against you.”
May this be a prayer we are willing to make with the desire to love you with all that we are.

  2. So true, this is one way that what goes into a man, can defile him!

  3. Thanks for a timely article! I have much concern about the messages in this area in so much Christian reading material! If it doesn’t line up with God’s Word…..

Anyway, thanks for the challenge! God means what He says.
