“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” –1 Thessalonians 5:18
We wish one another “Happy Thanksgiving” but are these just well wishes or are we happy about this time of year. Thanksgiving day can be the most difficult time for some. The entire month of November is full of daily postings of thankfulness but it really is a daily thing we learn…how to be thankful.
I have learned that it takes time to learn how to be thankful. It has to become a daily habit or it won’t be apart of our lives.
Whether we see it or not…God is faithful. He is there for us when we need help and he protects us from situations and people that aren’t healthy for us. When we reflect on our own lives it is easy to think about the things we don’t have and instead focus on the things we wish we had. Our world encourages us to focus on longing for the things we don’t have instead of being grateful for the life we do have.
If you find it difficult to be thankful everyday here are a few reminders of what to be thankful for:
1) The Lord hears you
2) The Lord loves you
3) The Lord is for you
While these may seem like simple things to be thankful for I encourage you to remind yourself everyday of these things. I have had many seasons in my life where it was hard to be thankful because of what I was facing. But our problems never negate who the Lord is. We can be thankful in the middle of our mess!
I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.
–Psalm 7:17
Even when we are going through more than we can handle we can be still and know that he is God!
