Sometimes the pressures of life do shove us to our limit. Perhaps you are there today…overwhelmed by things you cannot control, frightened by possibilities you dread or grieved by the choices of another. Can you believe that you are in a perfect place? It is in the times we come face-to-face with our weakness that we begin to walk in the power of God! In fact, He says that in our weakness, His power is made perfect. (2 Corinthians 12:9) Explore with me the exciting possibilities just beyond the edge!
Living life hanging by a thread is not what God desires for His children. Fearfully surviving is barely living. Jesus said He came to give abundant life! The truth is that living the life Christ gives means never knowing what exciting opportunity may come next! Living that life also means letting God choose what comes next…sometimes His choices would not be ours. Yet God never makes a mistake. And He never allows anything into our lives that has not been filtered by His perfect love. Usually, though, it is not until we are pushed to the edge that we will exercise our faith and let God have His way.
Our human nature wants to call the shots in life; a desire for independence bubbles up early in our lives. It is a by-product of the gift of free will God gave to humanity. Who has not heard a toddler say, “Me do it!”? Our God-given gift of free will brings both privilege and responsibility; it has the power to produce either destruction or blessing.
Choosing to follow our natural desire for independence reveals a trust in our self…in the plans we make, the strength we have. It is the Father’s desire that we trust in Him…that we surrender our will and say, ‘Thy will be done.’ Exchanging our independence for dependence on God launches us on a great journey!
Thy will be done is a simple phrase that transports us beyond our ability into His Kingdom! That simple phrase is the key to a life of adventure. The good and perfect plans of God—the very Kingdom of God—flood our world when we place our trust in the heart of God instead of ourselves. What we can plan and do fades in the grandeur of His plans. Stepping beyond our limit into the power of God means that the very same power which raised Jesus Christ from the grave works in and through us. Never be afraid when you see your limits. Step out in faith and rejoice that His strength is more than enough. In reality, we only have one choice: faith or fear; life or death. Choose faith and enjoy life!
