Forgiveness

Forgiving someone, though a hard thing to do, is the right thing to because Christ forgave us by dying for our sins. If Christ died for our sins so we could be with him and have his forgiveness, shouldn’t we forgive others when they have done us wrong and put the past behind us?

Isn’t that what Christ did for us? Are we not called to forgive as Christ once forgave us?

Ephesians 4:32 says:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

If we are called to do what it says in Ephesians 4:32, shouldn’t we do it?

Now I get it. It’s hard to not hold a grudge and it’s always just more simple to blame the other person but I think that if we all followed what Ephesians 4:32 says to the best of our abilities things would be different. ( that and if we all acted maturely and just owned our stuff things could also be different)

Now, I understand some things people have done seem very unforgivable, but forgiving someone isn’t a way of ‘losing’ or ‘giving in’. Just because you forgive someone doesn’t mean that what they did wasn’t okay but we are still called to forgive no matter what. I get it. Forgiveness is sometimes hard and its also really easy to just tell someone you forgive them even when you truthfully don’t. Its something even I struggle with and is definitely something that I need to work on.  Oftentimes it is easier to advise someone to forgive but when it comes to you doing the forgiving things can be difficult. I think that those times where we just don’t want to forgive, is where true forgiveness really comes into play and where our being called to forgive can become a challenge.

Today, I wanna leave you with these questions to ponder:

If Christ forgave us shouldn’t we forgive others, no matter what? Isn’t that where the whole ‘Forgive and Forget’ concept could come in to play?
