God Loves Puppies & Kittens

By Joel B.

A lot can be said about the Lord God. Not only is He the Creator and Redeemer of mankind, but there is also room in His immeasurable heart for the animals He created. Let’s take a bit of time to look at some scriptures that focus in on God’s love for animals.

God Preserved Animals During the Great Flood

When the Lord God sent the flood on the earth, He first made provision for both man, and of course animals. Why the animals? Because He loves them and He wanted them to have the chance to continue to be fruitful and multiply. That is why He made sure both male and female of their kind made it on to Noah’s Ark. Let’s look at the scripture:

Gen 6:19-20 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

God Preserves Animals in Nature

Ps 36:6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

Here we see that God preserves animals just as He does mankind. Wow, now that’s love. He treats a lesser creation with equal respect of a greater creation. Furthermore, we are given a powerful piece of wisdom in the Holy Bible that we should treat our animals well.

Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

“Beasts” means any animals a man possesses. This could be a cat, dog, or a pet bird. The point is, God wants you to treat your animals well.

God Guides The Lives of Animals

Matthew 12:10 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Now that is love! What was thought to be one of the least of the animals, God would not allow to fall to the ground outside of His will. Still don’t believe me that God guides the lives of animals. If you don’t, then have I got two words for you. “Balaam’s donkey!” Remember, God sent his angel in the donkey’s path and used it to save Balaam’s life three times. He even allowed it to talk!

God Compares Us to Animals

There are many times in scripture where humans are referred to or compared to animals. One of the most famous examples is the following:

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

If animals weren’t so dear, even the not-so-bright sheep, God certainly wouldn’t compare us to them at times.

Final Word

Friends, God loves the puppies, the kittens, the birds, and the livestock. I would go as far as to say He loves all of the animals He created. Let’s treat our pets and our livestock fairly. Let’s not harass or put them in uncomfortable situations. Let’s adore them for the beautiful creations they are. Remember, they were created for a purpose. Maybe we don’t understand that purpose, but it’s there. Thank you for reading and God bless.

  1. Very good! You brought out many ways God shows His care and love for His creatures. He does all things purposefully and we do enjoy and are intrigued by the variety He gave us to study and learn about as well as adopting them into our family. 🙂
