God’s Love

God’s Love

By Joel B.

Rom 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Friends, today I am going to talk to you about love. Not just any kind of love, but agape love. That special kind of love that God directs towards us all, even though we sin and make mistakes at times that are displeasing to him. He is always ready to forgive us and forget our errs.

Let me throw out scripture at you that I’m sure many of you have heard before:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We hear it in church, we see it on signs, and we even see it on sports attire of some of our favorite athletes. It’s because it’s a powerful verse about God’s love and what He has done for us. He gave us his One and only Son to die for the sins we have chosen to make. And as John 15:13 tells us, there is no greater love than that of a man who will lay down his life for his friends. This is exactly what Jesus Christ did for us. He died for the sins we have committed and still reaches out to us by referring to us as friends.

Rom 5:8 brings this matter to life even further by stating that, “God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Another profound statement of fact! He loves us even when we are rejecting Him and desires for us to draw near. For God himself is the essence of the purest possible love. 1 John 4:8 puts it to us straight by coming right out and stating that, “God is love.”

As followers of Christ, we need to follow in His footsteps. How do we do this? Well, Luke 10:27 tells us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. These are the greatest of all commandments.

In closing, I just want to say that I have briefly touched on the subject of God’s love. There is so much depth to this subject that is mentioned in the Holy Bible, and His love is also evident all around us in the provisions He provides for His creations. Sometimes we don’t realize how God is providing in a given situation, but things will become apparent as we draw closer to Him. May God bless you greatly with His love.

  1. My friend, Jesus would have died for you if you were the only person living.
