It’s fun to be a fool, not really.
You genuinely don’t have a care in the world. You do what you want when you want. Consequences: what are those? You live for yourself and no one else. You care not if you die or who you take with you. It’s actually not fun when you come to realize that the choices you made and the things you did affected other people’s lives, mostly negatively.
I spent the first 35 years of my life running from God doing what I wanted, not honoring him in anything, and miraculously by God’s grace he saw me through all of that and saved me. So, I know what it’s like to be a fool. I was the chief of fools. I was the chief of sinners. I did the things that you don’t want any of your kids to ever do. I feel sorry for that every day, but I also know that I have been saved from that. And so I see firsthand God’s beautiful wondrous miraculous Grace, that many professing Christians who have been a Christian all their lives don’t get to see.
This passage from Psalm 19 is one of the first ones I had memorized after I became a believer in Christ.
Psalm 19:7-10 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Verse 10 says the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. I think you can put fool in place of simple- because that’s what I was back then, a fool. I believe with every fiber of my being that He’s made me wise. Wise to Him, and I think He’s making me wiser for Him to spread His goodness and spread His gospel to everyone I meet.
As it says in the passage, my heart rejoices because I know that God’s word is right and true. My eyes have been opened to the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The only gospel that can save a foolish dying man. It’s the sweetest thing you will ever taste!
Hey Matthew,
Thanks for sharing and spreading the truth.
How amazing it is to have a God that forgives and transforms isn’t it?
