Are you truly available to receive all that you’ve been praying for?
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard; and no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” ( Isaiah 64:4)
We simply cannot grab ahold of the blessings God so greatly wants to bestow upon us when we’re holding on too tightly to people and relationships that are outside His perfect will for our lives.
If you’re caught up in a relationship that you know down in your soul is out of alignment with God’s will for your life and yet continue to pursue it then, in essence, the consequences of your disobedience are self-imposed. It’s possible to block our blessings by blatantly disregarding or disobeying the promptings the Lord puts on our hearts through the intercession of the Holy Spirit (also known as our guide, counselor and advocate).
God is gracious. Due to the gift of free will, He will allow us to choose our path. We can choose dysfunction or we can choose deliverance. We can choose pain or we can choose joy. We can choose to hold onto a relationship that distracts and divides us from our divine destiny or we can draw near to the heart of God and pursue relationships that are God-glorifying. It’s truly our choice. Either way, let’s not forget, the enemy is at work. He seeks to destroy all things godly as we discussed in “How to Protect Your Relationships from the Enemy”.
Healing and deliverance comes when we realize we cannot do this life or love well by our own wisdom and strength.
The Apostle Paul describes this beautifully in chapter three of his letter to the Philippians. He explains the destruction that can come when one puts too much confidence in their own flesh.
Paul encourages us to no longer depend solely on ourselves to live and love well. We have to be willing to LET GO of our own ideas, philosophies, desires, goals, and fears so that we can be fully submitted to God and His will for our lives. There will be times we have to divorce ourselves from our rigid plans and move on from destructive and dead-end relationships in order to receive the beautiful life of blessings and love God is calling us toward.
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)
The lesson that we can take from his teaching here is that life by our own design will only lead to destruction.
God did not build us to be self-sufficient, despite what deceptive secular and “New Age” philosophy tries to teach us. God created us to be relational beings. And the first and most important way for us to understand our worldly relationships is by embracing our relationship with Him above all else.
When the Pharisees tried to “test” Jesus by asking Him, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36), Jesus answered them by quoting Moses as found in Deuteronomy 6:5, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Are you holding on too tightly to what God has commanded you to let go of? Are you willing to surrender your plans and give God your heart, soul and strength and trust that He will heal and deliver you?

How would you evaluate your relationship with God? What can you do to deepen it?
Heather,
What a great message you have delivered! I agree with you 100 percent. It’s definitely important to let God lead us and I love what you said about Him creating us as relational people. Well done! God bless.
