The phrase “Jesus went to a lonely place to pray” is a major clue for us on how to have a powerful conversation with God. Jesus frequently withdrew into the wilderness or the mountains to commune with His Father in heaven. The result was that Jesus did powerful works throughout His ministry on earth. He was the exact representation of God and we too are created in the image of God. So it only follows that like Jesus we too would withdraw to a lonely place to pray.
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:16
When we withdraw into that lonely place with God and still ourselves in His mighty Presence the miraculous will occur. We are meeting with God Almighty and we are having a conversation with our Alpha and Omega the everlasting Father, Ancient of Days.
Peter went up to the rooftop to pray and he had a powerful conversation with God:
About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven. Acts 10:9-16
What happened was that God visited him mightily with the vision of the sheet coming out of heaven three times and God telling Peter to kill and eat. Remember there were all kinds of creeping and crawling things. Peter tried to figure out the vision but God revealed the answer to him immediately. It was time for Peter to share the gospel with the gentiles! He went to Cornelius’s house and Peter opened his mouth and the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles like He had on the Jews on the day of Pentecost. So when we have a powerful conversation with God He will do revolutionary things in our lives.
Jesus said we would do greater works then He did and this can happen if we get alone with God in prayer and have that powerful conversation!
Where can you go to get alone with God?
