Private Praise: A Pathway To Higher Realms!

Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. – Psalms 105:2

I truly enjoy worshiping the LORD in all forms – from daily Bible readings, meditative prayer, and through private songs in my own home. Of course it is wonderful to share with fellow Christians.  But – for me – personally – I love the “intimate atmosphere” in my own home. Where I can sing, cry, kneel and praise openly to my LORD and King and One and Only Forever and Always.

There is something to the whole mediative serenity of pure heart wrenching soul baring worship in private, dedicated to my GOD!  In His Presence, on my knees, at His throne of grace and mercy and love!

Private praise – Oh yes! There is something to be said about private moments with God! Something beyond explanation, moving mightily in the soul. Something positively indescribable, and overwhelmingly satisfying.

Worship and music is one thing – but private worship!  It is powerful! Carthartic! Loving! Peaceful!  Amen!

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:6

We all know that music has always been a divine gift, woven into the fabric of creation itself. From the harmonious songs of birds to the rhythmic beating of our hearts, music reflects the order and beauty of God’s design. In worship, music transcends mere sound; it becomes a spiritual language that connects us to the Creator. The Bible is rich with examples of music as a form of praise, prayer, and celebration of God’s glory.

Biblical Foundations of Music in Worship

The Psalms are a treasure trove of verses that emphasize the importance of singing and music in worship. Psalms 33:3 exhorts us to “Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.” This call to sing a new song each day reflects the freshness of God’s mercies and the renewal of our spirits through worship. Similarly, Psalms 150:4-5 encourages us to praise God with instruments and dance, showing that worship can be both joyful and expressive.

In the New Testament, Ephesians 5:19 reminds us to speak “to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” This verse highlights the inward and outward dimensions of musical worship—how it uplifts the soul and glorifies God.

Music as a Gateway to Higher Realms

Music has the power to elevate our spirits, drawing us closer to the divine. When we sing praises to the Lord, we align our hearts with His will, creating a sacred space where His presence dwells. Acts 16:25 recounts how Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison, and their worship led to miraculous deliverance. This story illustrates how music can transform even the darkest circumstances into opportunities for divine intervention.

The Completeness of Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are two sides of the same coin, and music bridges the gap between them. Singing psalms and hymns allows us to express our deepest emotions—joy, sorrow, gratitude, and longing—in a way that words alone cannot. Colossians 3:16 encourages us to let “the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” Through music, we internalize Scripture and share its truths with others, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth.

Reflective Thoughts and Moral Questions

  • How does music in worship help us focus on God’s presence rather than our own distractions?
  • Are we using music to glorify God or to seek personal recognition?
  • How can we ensure that our musical worship remains authentic and Spirit-led?

A Biblical Overview

From the songs of Moses and Miriam in Exodus 15:1-21 to the heavenly chorus in Revelation 5:9-13, music has been a consistent element of worship throughout Scripture. It is not merely an act of praise but a declaration of faith and a testimony to God’s greatness. Singing a new song each day reminds us of the ongoing work of God in our lives and His unchanging love.

Prayer

“LORD, we thank You for the gift of music, a divine tool that allows us to worship You in spirit and truth. May our songs be pleasing to Your ears, and may they draw us closer to Your Presence. Teach us to sing with joy, humility, and reverence, using music to glorify Your name and uplift our souls. Let our worship be a reflection of Your love and a testimony to Your grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

Scripture to Ponder

“O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.” – Psalms 95:1

May we look to sing a new song to the Lord each day, embracing the transformative power of worship, and servitude to the One and Only God, to the King of kings, and LORD of lords, and to the Greatest One of all! Ane enjoy being in His Presence, and worshiping fully and completely with pure unadulterated love and thanks!!!!
