Sharing the truth in love. How are we as disciples of Jesus Christ supposed to go about doing this?
The truth of the saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ should move every one of us to want to share it with everyone we encounter. This truth is what saves sinners from God’s judgment. Therefore the most loving thing we can do is share that with the world.
Ephesians 4:15-16 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
The world’s definition of love is not the same as the Bibles. The world says it’s loving to let people do whatever they want. In doing this they are building up a hardened heart. Not open to the things of God that will save them. The truth is something that will divide when brought into conflict with the world.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
So sharing the truth in love will necessarily bring about troubles. People will call you unloving or hateful because they don’t understand the things of God like a believer does. Their fleshly selves only want to hear things that promote their fleshly desires. It’s up to the believer to faithfully share these truths in the face of opposition and remain steadfast in those moments. Those moments are the ones that the world sees. If they see a Christian witnessing and flying off the rails at any opposition what kind of impression does that leave for them and others wanting to share the truth. Don’t ever compromise on the truth or try to make the gospel palatable to the world.
In sharing these truths and remaining faithful to the word of God we stay a great witness for the kingdom and help to fulfill the great commission of making disciples of all nations.
Hello Matthew,
Great message! We need to stand firmly in solidarity on the Word and never waver, no matter how “unpopular” it is to others. I’d rather be “loved” by God, than loved by the world. And I rather be shunned by the world, than to be shunned by God in Eternity!
Have a blessed day~
