Take The Step

What does stepping out in faith look like? This term or phrase stepping out in faith has been and probably will be said a lot. It’s not inherently a bad phrase but it can be somewhat overused.

When I think of this phrase now, I think of action. Of doing a tangible deed for someone else for example. Stepping out in faith in this regard could mean asking someone if they need help after you’ve seen them struggling. I don’t know if everyone else is like this but I’m over that doesn’t like to offer up help right away. That person may learn more from the initial struggle in doing something. Other times they may need the help but are hesitant to ask anyone else. Stepping out in faith, good faith, in this instance most likely will end up in you helping someone else and maybe even help to grow a relationship.

Romans 15:1-2 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

There’s an element of pride that sneaks in even when we are helping people. We see this in this part of that verse “and not to please ourselves.” We can think ourselves good just because we do good things. If we are not seeking to please God in our good works we’ve missed the point.

It edifies the whole body of believers when we all have a spirit of helping one another. It strengthens us all when we see a stronger brother helping a weaker believer. It encourages others to do likewise.

It’s a great thing to step out in faith and help one another. The Bible is clear on this and Jesus models it for us perfectly. Be intentional about looking for those people who may need help. In everything you do pray God would bless those interactions and give you the strength to help others.
