We eat healthy food and exercise to have a fit body, but what about our worldview? How many of us consume junk and do nothing when it comes to our worldview?
Our worldview, the way we think determines the way we interact with the world around us. If our worldview is healthy, then we manifest good, even amid bad circumstances. But on the other hand, if our worldview is sick from consuming junk, then all we can manifest is bad, even amid good circumstances.
Matthew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
What we take into ourselves through the eyes is often what we think about and this thinking shapes our worldview and our worldview shapes our choices.
In today’s culture, we feed our eyes junk. From mindless sitcoms and reality TV, to the excessive violence found in movies and video games, and even pornography. We have become fat and lazy in our worldview and our actions. Is it any wonder why the world is going the way it is? All we do is feed on a worldview that pushes us further and further away from God.
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
If, however, we fill ourselves with the worldview God Himself has given us in the form of the Bible, we will become healthy and active.
Put aside 10-20 mins, or even work your way up to a full hour a day for Bible study and prayer and you will soon find yourself thinking healthier and making healthier choices. As your worldview is shaped by the word of God, you will fill the darkness within with life and light and see clearly the good in ever situation, no mater how bad it is. Just as Paul told us in Romans “For those who love God, all things work together for good.:
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
When one feeds on the worldview God gave us, it changes us for the better, it cuts away the bad thinking, which leads to cutting away bad choices and in time we start thinking and acting like Jesus Christ.
The worldview God gave us-the Christian faith- is the only worldview that brings us closer and into communion with God. As Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me.” If we learn and obey the teachings of the word of God, let it be the foundation for the truths we govern our lives by and are consistent in our actions matching our God given worldview, we will know communion with the Father, the Son and the holy Spirit.
Are you feeding your worldview junk or the bread of life? What steps will you take to improve your diet?
