The Seven Spiritual Armors

Friends, today I would like to do a brief analysis of each of the Spiritual Armors. To get this going I would like to introduce them with two very important scriptures:

2 Cor 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Eph 6:12-13 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The Belt of Truth

The Truth is Jesus Christ (John 14:6). He is the promised Messiah (Gen 3:15, Isa 53). The Holy Bible gives us a stern warning that anybody, including angels, preaching any other gospel is to be accursed.

Gal 1:7-9 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

The Breastplate of Righteousness is what covers our heart and keeps us balanced so that we can stand firm. We must guard our heart, because the enemy would like nothing more than to take it by storm.

Psa 11:7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Shod Feed (Ready To Move With the Gospel)

We must move with purpose. The enemy is always on the move as well. We must equip ourselves to move quicker and prepare others before the enemy strikes. Even if the enemy has struck, we need to still move so we can bring him down and break the foothold so that the captives can be set free.

Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Shield of Faith

We are told above all to take up the Shield of Faith. This is where we give the battle over the Lord and allow for Him to make what might seem impossible, possible. He can take things that seem destructive to us and use them as a deathtrap against the enemy. This is also the way for developing a proper relationship with God.

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The Helmet of Salvation

The Helmet of Salvation guards our mind. It keeps our thoughts pure and Christ-centered. We are told in the Holy Bible not to conform to the world, but rather to the perfect will of God (Romans 12:2). We are also told to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12). It is no wonder that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom (Prov 1:7, 9:10).

The Sword of the Spirit

The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God and it is POWERFUL. This is because everything written in the Holy Word is a PROMISE. Therefore, we can be sure that when we apply it to life, things are going to happen. This is wonderful for us, and terrible news for the enemy. For the Holy Bible declares that the enemy has already been defeated. I have two scriptures I would like to share on this matter:

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The battle has already been won and declared. It is written…

Prayer

Prayer is powerful, especially when we pray in the Spirit. It is a form of worship and it is also something that involves action. You don’t have to be on your knees necessarily to be praying. You can be praying while you’re on the move, and you don’t necessarily have to be speaking even. It’s a spiritual connection with God.

1 Thes 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

Jude 1:20-21 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Final Thought

Friends, I just want to end with this. Don’t be lacking any holes in your armor. Keep it on at all times. If you don’t, that is where the enemy will attack. We can live in victory, but we must keep our armor on at all times. Thank you for reading and God bless.

What are some scriptures you can claim that will help you reinforce your armor?

  1. I often start by dressing my soul from Colossians before I put on the Armor of Jesus. I truly believe it makes a difference in my day.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

  2. Billie Jo,

Thanks for sharing such wonderful insight and beautiful scripture. It is certainly a blessing. God bless.

  3. Hi Joel,
Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed . 12 The night is far spent* , the day is at hand : let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

I have seen that when we put on Christ, He is our armor of light, so putting on the armor means to me, dwelling in Him, abiding in the Vine, a very secure place to be!
