Imagine you are standing on a mountain top on a cold blizzardy night. Jesus calls you to follow Him up this steep mountain incline. He is leading every step of the way. You are wondering why He is calling you to follow Him in these atrocious weather conditions. You know He will protect you but yet you wondering why are we climbing this mountain tonight?
Does He have some special message he wants to tell you out of earshot of the rest of the disciples. You know the other 11 had very worried and confused looks on their faces as you and Jesus left them in that warm house with that robust crackling fire. Yet you had peace because of the One who was going before you.
It seemed like the climb took eons to get to the top of the towering mountain. Jesus and you finally transversed to the top as the snow was now 6inches deep and giving no signs of letting up! Suddenly in a loud voice Jesus cries “BE STILL!” the snow stops abruptly and the cloud-filled skies cleared as quickly as they had blackened. Wonder and fear fill your mind and heart as Jesus even has power over nature itself.
You and Jesus are standing all alone when the unthinkable happens… Jesus is transfigured lighting up the night sky. His clothes flashing a brilliant white and the Glory of God emanating out of Him in all its fullness. You fall like a dead man at His majesty’s feet. He reaches down touching you and filling you with life once again. His clothes are normal. You hear a loud thunder from on high “THIS IS MY BELOVED SON IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED!” Everything is quiet once again and Jesus sternly warns you to tell no one of this brilliant display of His radiance and glory. The two of you head down the mountainside like nothing had ever happened.
There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Matthew 17:2
