There is Hope in the Valley of Death

Do not live in the valley of the shadow of death.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

A famous evangelist, Jessie Duplantis, once said, “God does not want us living in the valley of the shadow of death.” Sadly, many in the Body of Christ today have lost hope. They find themselves entrenched in the valley of the shadow of death. In comes the whirlwind of adversity and sweeps them into the land of no return. They set up house within the borders of “the land without hope”. But Jesus Christ came to earth to restore hope to mankind. God wants us to put our full hope in the work that Jesus accomplished on Calvary.

David puts it so succinctly:

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

Notice the first phrase, “Even though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death … ” (emphasis mine). We don’t live in the valley of the shadow of death. Beloved, God knows we will have times when we are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. He wants us to be filled with hope knowing that He is there with us; He comforts us with His supernatural rod and staff. Remember, He goes before us preparing the path through that dark valley.

You may be facing an insurmountable wall in your life today that you humanly cannot climb over safely to the other side. Guess what? God is already standing at that wall waiting to lift you on His shoulders so He can carry you over the wall to victory. No matter what, there is always hope in Jesus, your hope will never be cut off and there is always a hereafter.

Once upon a time I read a testimonial book of 50 stories written by fellow believers who did not lose hope and, in Jesus, they overcame very difficult circumstances. They wrote about losing lifelong mates, battling sicknesses that threatened their very existence. One lady wrote of how the Lord delivered her from the hopeless pull of witchcraft and brought her into a lifesaving relationship with Him.

I know in my own personal journey, Jesus saved me from a life of hopelessness and despair. I was so far down the road of sin I could never find my way out. I was stooped in a life of drugs and alcohol that darkened my future robbing me of all hope of ever living a normal life. But guess what? Jesus was there in my dark valley of death and He supernaturally lifted me out placing me on the mountain top. He filled my life with hope and I have never lost hope since that glorious day. So why don’t you stop living in that hopeless valley today? Put your hope in Jesus and let Him lead you out. He is ONLY a breath away!
