Treachery, Lies & Deceit: The Cure? – GOD!

The Treachery of Potiphar’s Wife: A Story for Our Times

In the ancient land of Egypt, Joseph, a young Hebrew, was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. He found himself in the house of Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh. Joseph was diligent and trustworthy, and soon, Potiphar entrusted him with all his household affairs.

However, Potiphar’s wife, driven by lust and deceit, cast her eyes upon Joseph. Day after day, she tried to seduce him, but Joseph, a man of integrity and faith, refused her advances, saying, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9, KJV).

Frustrated by his rejection, Potiphar’s wife devised a treacherous plan. One day, when the house was empty, she grabbed Joseph’s garment and demanded he lie with her. Joseph fled, leaving his garment in her hand. Enraged and humiliated, she falsely accused Joseph of attempting to assault her. Potiphar, believing his wife’s lies, had Joseph thrown into prison.

Yet, even in prison, the Lord was with Joseph, showing him mercy and granting him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison (Genesis 39:21, KJV).
