Trust: Seeking His Face In Consultation & Prayer

Psalm 37:5 -Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.

Trusting in God: A Reflection on Scripture and Faith

In the journey of faith, trusting in God forms the cornerstone upon which believers build their lives. The scriptures offer profound insights into the nature of this trust, especially when it stands against the opinions and actions of others.

Trusting in God isn’t just a “phrase”-it is a reality in which we need to live. A realm in which we aspire to dwell. And it is an inherent characteristic of a Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior. It is an impetus of moral compass and of a soul ignited by the love of Christ that has been “set free.”

Doctor’s go to college, then medical school, do their internship – overall comprising a lot of years, time and effort in order to become practicing physicians. Some even having to complete more years depending on their specialty. So, most of us do “trust their expertise” and oft times go with their suggestions as to what to do, or not to do- etc., and so on.

The Basis of Christian Faith

Christianity is rooted in the belief that God is Sovereign and His wisdom surpasses human understanding. Proverbs 3:5 encapsulates this beautifully, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” This verse calls for a complete reliance on God, urging believers to surrender their own logic and reason in favor of divine guidance.

Personally, I always go for a second opinion. But – not in the way you might think. You see I go to the LORD first. Then after being in consultation with Him – I may seek a “second opinion” which would be my doctor of choice. And not because I don’t trust my LORD. No! Actually, it’s because I trust Him fully-and He is the One that suggests I go for the doctor’s opinion.  Some may think that strange – peculiar, or any other name or adjective you’d wish to throw out-I call it “trusting in GOD for everything at all times!”

Sometimes you have to advocate for yourself -which is only through God. I’m not suggesting people ignore medical advice. I’m saying pray about it. Go with godly wisdom and advocate and ruminate and then decide what the decision should be. Then get the best doctor for whatever is ailing you. Trusting in God even when someone is telling you otherwise is the foundation of Christianity and the basis for faith.

Psalm 28:7– The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Moral Reflective Question

This narrative prompts us to reflect:  Are we willing to maintain our trust in God even when circumstances seem dire, and opposition is strong?

In conclusion

The scriptures from the Bible offer a profound perspective on trust in God. They remind us that true faith is not passive but active, requiring us to make a conscious choice to rely on God’s promises, even when the world around us suggests otherwise.

This trust is the essence of our Christian Walk, a journey that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.

“Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts open to Your wisdom and guidance. Teach us to trust in You as so many in the Bible did, with a faith that does not waver in the face of trials. May we rest in the assurance that You are with us, guiding our steps and protecting our hearts. Help us to remember that Your love is steadfast and Your plans for us are good. We thank You for Your faithfulness and ask for the courage to trust You completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
