Psalm 133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
The Bible is an invaluable tool on so many levels. The Word of the LORD still remains a source of knowledge with its prolific content as it ministers to our very souls. It brings a sense of peace and order to the lives of the faithful ones. His love is unwavering, as are His promises. Sadly, many who live in discord don’t know who Christ is and don’t share a fellowship with those who already know and love Him.
As a former social worker and administrator in the nursing home industry, I have seen this sort of conflict up front and personal. I’ve had endless meetings with families who’ve had disparaging views and ideologies especially concerning religion and politics.
In my experience, family members who held a strong belief in the LORD, were in agreement on all fronts in terms of their loved one’s care. They were cohesive in their choices, concise in what they expected, and confident in their decisions because they were united on all fronts. They were fully aligned and in tune with each other, considerate and overly solicitous in terms of respecting all parties concerned. They also had a “glow”, if you will, that comes from being intimate with the LORD, and His Word.
On the flip side, those who didn’t know the LORD were separated in all areas, concerning their loved ones in the nursing home. They argued with each other openly. Unfortunately, I was witness to their viper-like behavior more times than not. These family members admonished each other relentlessly. So much so, that many times I had to ask them to leave due to their unacceptable behavior upsetting their loved one. Some interactions were so bad their loved one’s medical conditions deteriorated as a direct cause of their display of animosity towards each other.
Psalm 133:1 doesn’t merely pertain to “days of old.” No, in fact that scripture is very much a part of who we are today. It’s what we represent as His children, and what we can accomplish due to its meaning. Unity is in fact, a strong adhesive element in life overall. It gives us the strength to endeavor things in a joint effort that becomes “less” of a burden due to conformity. Now, with the LORD in our corner, and standing firmly on His word and truth, we are able to encounter hurdles, and jump over them seemingly with ease.
Jesus, tells us to “love one another” (John 13:34) and to “take on His yoke”(Matthew 11:28) because it is light and easy. When we are united in His Word, we can take on things in a way that we could not do otherwise.
Are you firmly entrenched in His word? Do you sometimes feel disjointed due to family squabbles? Do you meditate on His scriptures daily? Do you want to experience peace?
Being a part of “His family” is an honor and blessing in and of itself. But being in harmony with others is a joy to feel, see, and behold!
“Father, thank You for Your Word, and Your provisions in guiding me, directing me, loving me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
