For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. 2 Timothy 1:5-7
God has explicitly deposited spiritual gifts in each of us. Paul reminds us that we need to keep our gifts aflame and stirred up. God has given us gifts to benefit the Kingdom of God at large. We are unique entities on this earth, and the Lord has set specific destinies for each of us to follow. We may have been put down, ostracized, maybe even down right criticized at some point in our lives. The devil is whispering the same old worn out recordings in our spirits “We are useless, God cannot or will not use us. Besides what do we have to offer to anyone anyway?”
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
God has not given any of us spirits of failure or fear but spirits of love, power and sound minds. When we hear these worn out recordings in our spirits, we take the counter offensive and hit the devil between the eyes with the power of God’s written word. We need to know that if we us the sword of the Spirit against him; He has to flee and take his negative thoughts with him, these destructive ways will terminate as the devil quivers under the power of God.
We know God has given us all unique spiritual giftings and He promises to lead us into a future full of hope:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
The Lord God has chosen us to be in his service; His call is irrevocable and He will never violate the words He has uttered; He has put the call and gifts in our spirits and He will help us use them; so we do not let the evil one steal our destinies from us. Let’s fight back in the might of the Lord and let Him confirm our witness with signs and wonders following.
