Back-to-school sales tout the importance of being dressed well. It reminds me to be more attentive to my wardrobe…not because I need anything though. My clothes are always in fashion, suited for every occasion, vibrant and eye-catching. But some days I am distracted and fail to put on my best. That is actually why I wrote this; I thought the same might happen to you. If you, like me are a child of the King, there is never any lack! Our Father owns it all and gives with amazing generosity. Now the secret is out…this is not a fashion piece at all…but it is about clothing that always wears well.
Join me in celebrating the incredible wardrobe Abba Father provides. He teams up with the Spirit and the Savior to dress me well! Speaking of undergarments sounds rather risqué and inappropriate, but we have to begin with our soul dressing! Colossians 3:12 is where I like to start my dressing.
Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
I love to wrap my soul in these attributes of the Holy Spirit. When my mind, my heart and my will are covered with His mercy and forgiveness, I am at peace. Considering the forgiveness and meekness of my Savior awes me. His amazing strength held in check, patiently waiting for me to see His glory inspires me with thankfulness and courage!
Only then do I step over to my outerwear. The glorious armor of God fits well only when my innermost being has been touched by its Maker. The protective belt of Truth placed around me gives a place to fasten my Savior’s righteousness. Knowing who He is and who I am clearly reminds me, I need His righteousness. My best clothing without Him is only a filthy rag—no covering, only shame. Then I pull on my shoes so that I can tell others about the King who loves them and wants to provide everything for them!
Nearly ready to enter the battlefield, I grab the shield of faith I have been provided. The helmet of salvation slides into place to protect and filter my mind, my eyes, my ears and even the words I speak. Finally, I pick up the sword which belongs to the Holy Spirit. That Sword, the creative, life-giving Word of God is wielded effectively only by the Spirit within me. Finally, I am prepared for a prayer-powered life that will answer the plea taught by Christ: Thy Kingdom, Thy Will be done! In fact, in my armor, I am in Christ for He is Salvation, Righteousness, Truth and Good News!
Enjoy your wardrobe. Treasure it! Display it for all to see.
This was the very mind we need to have with each new day The Lord gives us to invest in. No better way to dress for every occasion.
God is so generous!
In deed, I am fully dressed… in only the finest clothing provided by God. Great article!
Shine on! thanks bj
