When God Laughs

In Russia last year, Alexander Kudryavtsev, head of a prestigious genetics institute, was fired for stating that he believed that man lived to be over 900 years and more before the flood. The reason for shortened lives after that was because of original, ancestral, and personal sins,’ causing genetic diseases.”

In New Jersey this February, Pastor John Amanchukwu spoke against transgenderism at the Old Bridge Township School District’s public board meeting.   Many at the meeting protested against him, and he was forcibly removed from the podium when he quoted Scripture.

The well-known French infidel Voltaire made a bold prediction: In one hundred years, the Bible and Christianity will be swept from existence into oblivion. His prophecy “bombed.”

Voltaire died in 1778. Sixteen years later, the printing press he used to print his infidel literature began to print copies of the Bible. After 58 years, the Geneva Bible Society prepared and stacked Bibles in his house.

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. HE THAT SITTETH IN THE HEAVENS SHALL LAUGH: the LORD shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.” (Psalm 2:2-5).

To oppose God and intentionally fight against him is no laughing matter. It is an alarming scenario when an unbeliever mocks God, the Bible, God’s people and the work of God. In the truest sense of the word, God will have the last laugh. And I would not want to be the target of God’s laugh.

“The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The LORD shall LAUGH at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.”  (Psalm 37:12-13).Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will LAUGH at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.” (Proverbs 1:24-27). Hebrews 10:31 gives a frightening warning: “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

God does not want you to become the subject of His laugh. He is a holy and just God, and He must punish sin. “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23). “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”  Please note that it lists the “fearful” and “unbelieving” as well as some of the more recognized sins.

Because He does not want to laugh at you and He does not want you to go to Hell, He planned, and Jesus gave His life to pay for our sins. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

Hebrews 9:27 warns, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Though God is stern in His promise and warning of judgment, He is not in a hurry to exercise judgment. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9).

There are some heartbreaking verses in John 1:10-11  “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”  He came into the world He created but was unrecognized. Yet Romans 1:19-21 says, “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”  They knew of His eternal power and Godhead in the first century, and we know today. Yet, we may choose not to believe.

BUT, here comes the happy part: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12).   “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37).   “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

The Bible contains many invitations for lost sinners to come to Christ for forgiveness and salvation.   The Bible even closes with an invitation. “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”  (Revelation 22:17).

Will you accept Christ as your Savior today?
