Where Will The Jews Find Refuge In The Tribulation?

There is a city of Old Testament times in southern Jordan called Petra. It is a major tourist attraction. Several scenes from “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” were filmed there. It also has prophetic significance. Some Bible scholars believe it will be the place of refuge for the Jews during The Great Tribulation.

During the second half of the Tribulation Period, it is believed by many that the anti-Christ will break a peace agreement with Israel and will take his seat in the Temple in what is called the Abomination of Desolation (Matthew 24:15) and Jerusalem will be “surrounded by armies…(Luke 21:20). In the very next verse of both of these chapters is the phrase, “Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” Is Petra the place of provision and protection during the last half of The Tribulation? In addition to the above two verses, Revelation 12:6 says, “And the woman (which most interpret as meaning Israel) fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God, so that there she might be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.”

The ancient city of Petra was at its prime between about 9 B.C. and 40 A.D. It was located on a major trade route. This “mountain residence” had a very advanced and ingenious water system for its time, making available 12 million gallons a day, according to archaeologists! This is even more incredible when one considers the fact that Petra is located in a desert region. Unfortunately, an earthquake in 693 A.D. destroyed a major portion of the city, but remains of the water system can still be seen today.

Petra is a major tourist attraction in Jordan, hidden in the hills and sculptured out of them. The only access is through a mile long and very narrow passageway, with cliffs on both sides rising to hundreds of feet. The Petra Archaeological Park covers 264,000 square miles. Only 15 percent of this “city” has been unearthed, with 85 percent still underground and untouched. In 2007 it was designated as one of the new seven wonders of the world, in second place after the Great Wall of China. Does God have a plan for this place on his prophetic calendar?

Revelation 12:6 teaches that there will be a place “prepared by God.” Could Petra sustain such a huge influx of refugees? And what about water? If the provision of water was evident in the first century, it would not be difficult to believe that the advancements of the 21st century could do the same. And the same God who provided water out of a rock for the Israelites wandering in the wilderness could certainly sustain a large group of Jewish refugees in the present day.

Some say that the Jews would still be vulnerable to destruction via modern day warfare. However, there is a verse in Daniel 11:41, in the context of the rule of the anti-Christ, which refutes this. “He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab, and the foremost of the sons of Ammon.” Edom, Moab, and Ammon are now known as Jordan, where Petra is located.

So, is a major tourist attraction yet to be fully revived and unearthed, being preserved and prepared by God to sustain and protect the Jews during the time of The Tribulation? What do you think about all of this?

I think there is another verse but can’t seem to find it . . . The place in the desert is a hiding place for Jews. . . Petra is NOT the place. . . It is well known to everyone. . . God did not make it special for Jews to hide.

  3. I agree with you! We serve an amazing God! It was very well written and true! Thank U

  4. This is a very good article!
Thank you very much for sharing this!

I believe Jesus can do ANYTHING, especially deliver the Jews from the antichrist.
I believe Jesus’ promises about keeping the antichrist from Jesus’ escaping Jews.
I also believe Jesus can FORCE the antichrist to leave Jesus’ escaping Jewish Children alone.

Just because Petra is known worldwide does NOT mean Jesus cannot use Petra to protect His Children.
Jesus tells us in His Holy Bible that a flood (of people) will come after the escaping Jews.
Scripture also tells us that Jesus will swallow up that flood (of people), and keep them from harming His Children.
Therefore, the enemy will not only KNOW where the Jews are hiding, but they will send antichrists to kill the escaping Jews.
Even so, Jesus will stop the antichrist from harming the escaping Jews.

The land of Israel, however, will be made desolate, barren, and empty during the last half of the tribulation.
The protection of the land of Israel will NOT be certain, until Jesus returns at His 2nd coming.
Even so, you can be certain, that when Jesus has created a safe haven for His Children, that Jesus will keep His promise to protect them.

I pray every single day that Jesus will bless me financially, so that I can help His Jews create a safe haven in Petra and Jordan.
I also pray that I may be there with them.

    Revelation 12:14-17 KJV
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

    Revelation 17:15 KJV
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

  5. I believe that “Flood” is water that the beast will send to the Israelis who are hidden in the cleft of the rock. Petra is very narrow, similar to USA Zion National Park, Whittier Narrows. There’s constant warning of flash flooding. The Beast sends a natural disaster in the form of a flood, to drown them all but God says: “the earth swallows up the water.”

  6. I’ve been to Petra and there is no advantage in being there that I can think of, and no food but perhaps they will head for the region where the Exodus tribes lived and would it not be like God to provide Manna for them again and care for them in the wilderness?

    • Where is Israel going to hide during the LAST HALF of the tribulation?

There are 3 countries that shall escape out of the beasts’ hand during the tribulation:
      Edom Moab Ammon

      Daniel 11:41 KJV
41  He (the first beast, the antichrist) shall enter also into the glorious land (Israel), and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

WHAT IS THE MODERN NAME FOR THESE 3 COUNTRIES?
      Jordan is the answer!

Modern Day Edom: Modern Day Southwest Jordan
Modern Day Moab: Modern Day Jordan
Modern Day Ammon: Modern Day Jordan
Modern Day Sela: Petra in Modern Day Southwest Jordan
Modern Day Judah or Judaea: Modern Day Judea or Israel

Petra is located in the Southwestern corner of Modern Day Jordan.
Therefore, the wilderness and mountains where the Israelites will be fed and kept safe just might be in Modern Day Jordan, in Petra!

Scriptures relating to Israel, and the Jews, during the tribulation.

Israel is fed and nourished in the wilderness for 1,260 days.
Jesus warns that Israel must flee to the mountains, when the abomination of desolation is in the Holy Place.
The 1,260 day reign of the antichrist starts at the same time the abomination of desolation begins to be in the Holy Place.
This is during the LAST HALF of the tribulation.

      Revelation 12:6 KJV
6 And the woman (Israel) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
(1,260 days) (the total time is 3.5 years)
      (1,260 days = 42 months = 3.5 years)

      Revelation 12:14 KJV
14 And to the woman (Israel) were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time (one year), and times (2 years), and half a time (6 months), from the face of the serpent. (satan)
(1,260 days) (the total time is 3.5 years)
      (1,260 days = 42 months = 3.5 years)

      Matthew 24:15-16 KJV
15  When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16  Then let them which be in Judaea (Israel) flee into the mountains:

      Mark 13:14 KJV
14  But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea (Israel) flee to the mountains:

      Luke 21:20-21 KJV
20  And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
21  Then let them which are in Judaea (Israel) flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
