Have you ever been to an open house? Well if you’ve ever been house hunting, you probably would have. Even though I’m not a homeowner as yet, I’ve had the privilege of assisting with several open houses. Doing so gave me the opportunity of landing a front row seat to observing how potential buyers operate.
Each prospective client has different expectations and different needs to be fulfilled. So for one house, an individual might complain that the yard is too small which means the children or the dog won’t have enough space to run around and play. For another individual, the same house might have too much yard space. For some, the lack of a double garage is off-putting. For others, an unfinished basement is scary. One may love the idea of living in an old fashion house and another will despise the architectural design.
The truth is every homeowner wants the ideal house that will cater to their needs and the needs of their family. Comfort is paramount. We all know how important it is being able to “look-forward-to” going home… to a house that offers relaxation… to a house that allows us to drop the cares of the day at the front door, and step into a world of security. This means that homeowners-to-be will spend the time and make the effort to select the best house. However, houses—like other material things—are perishable. In addition, they have no use to us when we’re dead.
So let me ask… “Where will you live when you die?”
Whether you accept this truth or not, after death comes judgment. Your decisions and how you live your life will ultimately be the deciding factor in where you spend eternity. Will you be living in one of the mansions that Jesus had gone to prepare?
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14: 2-3)
Or will you be living in a lake of fire that burns endlessly?
“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
There are only two options when it comes to choosing our eternal home, heaven or hell. Choose today where you’ll be living after death.
