Last night after playing for hours outside, my two-year old looked like Pig-Pen from Charlie Brown and the grimy murky bath water told the story of his day. Needless to say, he was one dirty boy! I had to run water a second time just to make sure he had been washed clean.
Sometimes when we have allowed ourselves to play in the sandlot of the world for too long, we have to drain the grimy water off our own lives and get right with God.
Maybe you made a commitment to Jesus as a child or even a teen, but you never really followed through with what God was calling you to do. Or, maybe your new found life in Christ stood out too much amongst your friends or family and the pressure became difficult, so you conceded to going against your heart’s desires making a choice to “take a break” from Jesus.
However, you are never too filthy to cleanse yourself in the blood of Christ, who went to the cross for us even when he knew we were soiled in our sin. We can ask God to create in us a clean heart…and renew a steadfast spirit within us (Psalms 51:10).
Life can be so messy, and even when we try to do the right thing sometimes it never seems to be good enough. No matter how hard we try, failure always takes its place along our path. Yet, God does not require us to be perfect. He doesn’t even expect us to be all cleaned up in order to get to know Him. All he asks is that we draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water (Hebrews 10:22).
When we choose to come out of our playtime with the world, he will sprinkle us with clean water and cleanse us from all of our filthiness and from all of our idols (Ezekiel 36:25). Only the blood of Jesus is able to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Do you desire to be washed free from all of your sins?
