There is an old hymn that has this memorable line in it:” He gave His life what more could He give?” This is the eternal question what more could God give? He gave Jesus Christ His only Son on Calvary for us. There is no greater gift God could have given to us then-Jesus. God gave us eternal life. Let it sink in God gave us eternal life. Many today portray God as a vindictive, evil God that is just waiting for His children to step out of line so Ne can slam them!
Let me set the record straight once and for all. God is love and everything HE DOES IS OUT OF LOVE. Even when He disciplines us it’s out of love. The Old Testament illustrates many examples of God judging Israel and the nations around her. Some of those judgments were very harsh but God always warned the intended parties to turn back to Him or He would judge them. He would have relented if they listened to His warnings. Remember Nineveh in Jonah? God sent Jonah to warn that evil city of impending disaster. He warned them and what did God do? He relented of his judgment because Nineveh repented of her wickedness.
The whole point of God sending Jesus was to judge sin once and for all. God could have judged mankind for our sins. But in His great mercy He poured out His full wrath on Jesus. Why? God wanted to spare us from dying for our sins because He loved us so much. Jesus took our judgment Himself because He loved us so much. God died for us! Yes He died for us to spare us from His judgment. He freely gave us eternal life and Jesus all for free. Who could ever pay God for this indescribable gift? We can’t and God isn’t asking us to.
So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7
God is for us not against us. Every thought He thinks toward us is for our well-being not our harm. He wants us to have a bright and hopeful future. He doesn’t want our future to be filled with doom and gloom. He knows the good plans He has for His own.
Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
We who love God have not begun to see or taste all the goodness He has laid up for us in Heaven. Jesus said He came to give life abundantly. So in the present God wants to give us good things here on earth too. What more could He give?
What more can God give?
