Tis the season to be jolly!
You may be asking, “Is it Christmas?”… Slow down… No it’s not. But this time of year really does bring out the jolliness in both parents and children alike. This is because it’s back to school time again!
Parents are eager to get the children out the door and on the school bus, and the children are even more excited to be getting out the door and on the school bus. It’s a win-win situation. Parents and Caregivers, after being exhausted from running around entertaining the kids, are overjoyed to be able to take a breather and celebrate with some “me-time.” In the meantime, the kids who have had just about enough of the house and lollygagging around, are bursting at the seam with anticipation—well most of them anyways—to go back out and see all their friends.
I got you there didn’t I? Did you actually think kids are excited about returning to school just to learn? Yes they might miss the teaching/learning experience, but they miss their friends more. They’re also trilled about sporting their new wardrobe and their cool new school supplies. Go on…ask your child.
Parents, as happy as you may be to see them go off to school, take the time to dedicate them to God by covering them in prayer. The school is a wonderful place of learning, but that does not make it immune to crime and violence as you’ve noticed. Make the time to pray together as a family before they head out the door.
Children, as much as you all are wired to jump into the new school term, remember to take Christ along with you. Don’t leave Him at church or in family prayer time. Take Him along to guard your day, your heart, and your actions. “Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)
Let’s pray that the Christian kids in our public schools will be bold in expressing their faith, because they have a First Amendment right to do so. Prayer and Bible reading never left our school system. The administration and faculty are not allowed to endorse, participate, or in any other way have anything to do with it, but if the students want it and totally run it, apart from any administrative or faculty involvement, then it is perfectly legal. So, again, let’s pray that the Christian students will be bold in taking a stand for truth and righteousness, and exercise their right of free religious expression.
Well said JLC, amen!
