Psalm 127:3” Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” God told Adam and Eve a long time ago to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Fill the earth with what? Children, so the knowledge of God will be written in the hearts of children from generation to generation. We have a God given responsibility to train our children in the ways of the Lord. Parents are to provide for and support their children in matters of dress, morals and accurately teaching the Word of God in truth.
Israel was exhorted by God to teach their children the statues of the Lord by constantly talking about them and keeping his commands ever before their eyes and in their mouths. Christian parents in this modern day are called to bring their precious children up in the way they should go; instructing them in the whole counsel and truth of the living Christ. Today presents many complexities those believers from days gone by never had to face. We in this generation need the Holy Spirit to guide us daily in raising our children like no other generation before us. The internet has made the wrong type of knowledge accessible on every computer across the world and in seconds that information is transferred indelibly on these young minds.
Today fellow believers in Christ we need to monitor what our children are looking at on the internet as well what is being watched on television. We know God has not left us alone in this awesome responsibility called parenthood. He has given us the weapons of supernatural warfare found in Ephesians 6:10-17 “10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
He has given us Jesus and the Holy Spirit to counsel us along the way and finally we have his powerful Living word to assist us daily as well. So let us bring our children up as God has commanded us in keeping them as gifts.
