Wives, be under the authority of your husbands. This is the right thing to do in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be gentle to them. Children, obey your parents in all things. This pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not nag your children. If you are too hard to please, they may want to stop trying. Colossians 3:18-21
You have heard the saying “The apple does not fall far from the tree”? Well the translation is if children grow up in abusive homes and witness domestic violence on a daily scale, they will grow up and either marry abusive spouses or become abusive themselves toward their spouses and children.
Jesus Christ nailed the sins of domestic violence, spousal abuse and the big one child abuse on the cross of Calvary. He became sin that we might live and be free from the sins of domestic violence. There may be a history of generational domestic violence in a family but the trend does not need to carry on from generation to generation. The love of Christ is shed abroad in every believer in Jesus Christ. His supernatural love can stop and heal any wounded soul that has been broken and tainted by other abusive family members or friends. Whatever the relationship is to the victim or the abuser God’s love can reach into a fragmented heart and make that person whole again
The only way to stop the attack of the devil on the family institution worldwide is to attack him head on by the renewing of our minds. God’s word is so powerful it divides the soul and spirit and the joints from the marrow. It is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Our churches, bible schools must begin to deal with the issue of domestic violence in all phases of life. How? Christians, teaching from our pulpits, classrooms that domestic violence is not an acceptable lifestyle in America or anywhere in the world for that matter. Christians having their minds renewed and for non-believers to be born into God’s Kingdom. They then begin the journey to having their minds renewed by God’s powerful word will change their abusive thinking patterns into life giving positive godly patterns.
You change the mind of a man and you change his whole nature. The only way to stop domestic violence is to change the mind, soul and spirit of the perpetrator and that can only be done by the penetrating power of God’s supernatural word. No better place to start this life transforming process than in children’s Sunday school classes across the globe.
We can attend all the positive self-image classes or positive thinking seminars we want. The only real and lasting change to stop domestic violence is to be transformed by the love and Word of God.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
God’s Word-No better place to start to break the plague of domestic violence in our world today!
Such a powerful article, Greg. Not only Sunday school, but Sabbath school as well. And not only in churches, but starting in the homes too. When we thoroughly educate children, then we can have hope that they’re equip enough to start breaking the cycle.
Amelia,
So true and the younger we start renewing the minds of our young people
it gives God that much more time to intervene and transform their minds
so they will walk in his truth. Thanks for reading and thanks for your kind compliment
