Contractor Will Give You a “Helping Hand”

By John Livingston Clark

Sometime soon you might see a semi-trailer pull up on your street, and out of it will jump a family of six. In a day when many people are in need, the Gordon family in central Washington State is ready to assist. David, along with his wife, Lisa, and four children ages, 5, 7, 10, and 14, have launched a ministry of providing help to individuals and households, which truly has become a family affair.

David Gordon was a contractor for many years and did work for custom home builders. He still has retained his license. He asked the question of where God would like him to take his construction business. In 2013 he and his family began a full-time ministry called “Helping Hands 4 Christ.” David was raised by his parents and grandparents to love and serve God. By example he was taught that God would provide the tools, education, and experience to meet the needs of those the Lord had in mind for him to serve. The family sums it up this way. “Many times service allows an opportunity where no opportunity existed before. Service through love shows that Christians truly care and are willing to put in the time and effort needed to allow a sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ.” They quote the Bible verse in Galatians 6:2 that says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

In keeping with their motto, “Doing Tangible Acts of Service,” they have had opportunities to share their faith and pray with people while they are working on someone’s home, doing manual labor, or buying groceries for a needy family, among many other deeds of service. People often ask them why they are doing these things, which opens a door to share the gospel.

As much as possible the entire family is involved. By example, the children are learning to love and serve God by meeting the needs of others, as well as learning how to share their faith. The Gordon family is supported by their local church in Selah, Washington. They also seek help from other churches and sponsors.

Their vision for the future is to travel the nation with the entire family and a fully loaded and equipped semi-trailer, ready to help where needed, whether it is a natural disaster, a family in need, or even helping a family move from coast to coast who otherwise could not afford it. They are setting an example for entire families to become involved together in serving the Lord and sharing their faith through words and actions. The Gordon’s will continue to move forward as God provides, with twelve “helping hands” to those in need.

  3. Lord use this family mightily for your glory let them literally be as the Human Christ manifested on this earth.Amen

  4. Lord, I pray you will provide them with a semi-trailer so they can take this ministry coast to coast.

    • “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Father, I pray for the desires of the hearts of this family to be met. I pray that you would meet every one of their needs that would lead their ministry in the way you are calling them to answer. Provide for them partners to come along side and help out with their financial needs and also provide for their physical needs to get them from coast to coast. Amen.
