Time To Open Your Umbrella! – Seeking God’s Protection

When troubles seem to engulf our lives, it’s essential for Christians to anchor themselves in their faith. The Bible is a treasure trove of wisdom, comfort, and guidance for such times. Let’s delve into scripture, reflecting on ancient wisdom and drawing parallels to our contemporary lives.

Seeking Refuge in God’s Word

The Bible encourages us to seek refuge in God’s promises. One of the most powerful scriptures is found in Psalms: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea” (Psalm 46:1-2).

This verse reminds us that no matter how dire our situation, God’s presence is unwavering. Reflect on the times when you felt God’s presence in your life, even when everything seemed bleak. How did this strength manifest itself?

Trust and Obedience

In the midst of trials, trust and obedience to God are paramount. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Trusting God means relinquishing our desire to control every aspect of our lives and yielding to His divine wisdom. Consider: Are there areas in your life where you struggle to trust God fully? What steps can you take to deepen your trust in Him?

Patience and Perseverance

When trials and tribulations seem to be flooding your existence, and you feel as if your head is barely above the water about to be fully engulfed by darkness- that is when you will be lifted up, and pulled from your submersion of spiritual drainage, and you fully remember God is with you always!  He will protect and shield you and breathe His strength into your lungs and fulfill the capacity in which you need to survive.  We just need to trust and believe and hang tight.

God Is like our own personal umbrella – the indestructible kind! He shields, covers us – and oversees to our well-being – protecting us at all times!

James 1:2-4 speaks to the virtues of patience and perseverance: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Trials are opportunities for growth. They refine our character and draw us closer to God. Reflect on a recent trial you faced. How did it shape your faith and character?

Actions and Attitudes

As Christians, our actions and attitudes during difficult times should reflect Christ’s teachings. Philippians 4:6-7  advises, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Instead of succumbing to anxiety, we are called to present our concerns to God and trust in His peace. Consider: How can you incorporate prayer and gratitude into your daily routine, especially during trying times?

What NOT to Do

Avoid Despair: Psalm 43:5 states, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Despair leads us away from faith.

Do Not Seek Revenge: Romans 12:19  warns, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Vengeance is not ours to take.

Steer Clear of Negative Influences: Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Be mindful of the company you keep.

Personal Reflection and Prayer

Reflect on the scriptures and insights shared. In what ways have you encountered God during your challenges? How can you apply these teachings to your life? And how have your trials deepened your spiritual roots? How has your spirit grown?

“LORD -We thank You for being our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Help us to trust in Your Divine wisdom and to lean not on our understanding. Grant us patience and perseverance to endure trials, knowing that they refine our faith. May our actions and attitudes reflect Your love and peace. Guard our hearts from despair and guide us away from revenge and negative influences. We ask for Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, to guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Thank You for the promise of brighter days ahead, for just as the sun shines after the storm, so does Your grace upon us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

Inspirational Thought

Remember, the trials we face are but temporary. God’s love and promises are eternal. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” (Psalm 30:5).

Hang tough with the Lord, for after every storm, there is a rainbow—a reminder of God’s unfailing covenant with us.

May you find strength, hope, and unwavering faith in Him during your trials. And delve into His Word, His promises and embrace them and most especially His love.

His Spirit lives within, and stronger is He in you, than the one who is in the world!

God Bless you all.
