If you live in the parts of America where there’s snow, chances are, you’re dreaming of a white Christmas. For those of us living in a winter wonderland, snow is associated with the Christmas season. Making snow angels and snowballs during winter has almost become automatic for children. But in the rare occasions when there’s little to no snow, it’s as if the Grinch stole all our jolly!
There’s no snow in Buffalo as yet, and it has only fallen once in Rochester, New York. Normally, the beginning of December would be welcoming a couple of inches of snow. But thus far, there’s no snow on the ground. This kind of snowless weather has the potential to put a damper on the Christmas spirit, since the place still has a little summer/fall feel. As such, the children have started their complaining.
The lack of snow just seems to soak up all the Christmas-jolly. Nevertheless, as much as how we might not have a “White Christmas” this holiday season, the show must go on. Why? Because more important than the presence of snow, is the reason for the season—Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:21). But if you still need a nudge, here are the top four ways to bring out the jolly this Christmas:
Listen to Christmas Carols
If you’re old-fashion, put your CDs on. If you’re new-age, tune in to Pandora or the likes. Whatever your option, start listening to some Christmas carols today. Carols such as Silent Night, Jingle Bell, and Oh Christmas Tree, will surely usher in Christmas cheers. Most of these songs celebrate Jesus’ birth, and that’s a great reason to be jolly.
Deck Your House with Decorations
There might not be any snow on the ground, but that’s no reason to leave Frosty the Snowman in the basement or the attic. Decorate your front yard with snowman and your house with blinking lights. Erect the Christmas tree—real or fake, and dress the fireplace with Christmas stockings. Once your home has the look and feel of the holiday season, you will feel the spirit of Christmas as well.
Indulge in Christmas Cooking
In addition to your home looking like Christmas, have it smelling like Christmas too. Let the mouthwatering aroma of roasts, casseroles, stuffing, pies, fruitcake, gingerbread cookies, eggnog and more fill your home, and their taste, your tummy.
Watch Christmas Movies
Watching old Christmas classics such as Elf, A Christmas Carol, even Home Alone, is guaranteed to bring out the jolly in your heart. Not only do they bring you and your family, laughter, they’re also a great way to intensify the Christmas season.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13)
