1John 4:4(NIV)—You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
The Holy Spirit, who is in us, is greater than the devil’s spirit who is in the world. We, who are God’s children, have the Holy Spirit in us. Only believers are God’s children. Unbelievers are not accepted as His children because they are still separated by sin. [John 1:12(NIV)—Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.]
Everyone is born an unbeliever. We don’t automatically become a Christian. We have to choose to become a believer and follower of Christ Jesus. To become a believer is to ask Jesus to come into our heart because we believe He is the only begotten Son of God, and we would like to have Him be a part of our life.
He gives us a fresh new start. We are changed from the inside out,–from being a rebellious sinner who has a hard heart into a holy child of God who is spiritually alive. Some Christians don’t mature as fast as others because they don’t put much effort into it. Some read their Bible every day and pray and go to church, while others just pray when they want something, and hardly look at the Bible. The effort is important.
God has given His power to overcome the evil that is in this world. [2Timothy1:7(NIV)—For God did not give us a Spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline.] God’s unbeatable and great power is available to help us. There is nothing too difficult for Him. We don’t need to be intimidated by fear again when His Holy Spirit is us. He has conquered death. Who could be against us, when He is for us? We share in His victory.
Satan, who is also called the devil, is a temporary ruler of the part of the world who chooses to follow him for now. Jesus is the permanent ruler of the whole world. By the grace of God—people have a choice of who to follow. Choosing salvation saves us from being ruled by the devil. We are more aware of the devil’s temptations because we’ll be able to discern the spirits better after we are saved. We know the difference between good and evil. [Ephesians 2:1-2(NIV)—1) As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2) in which you used to live when you followed the ways of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.]
Non-Christians do not understand the concept of God’s Spirit living in believers. God puts blinders on unbeliever’s eyes. The person who rejects God cannot comprehend God’s wonderful message. Being separated from God, unbelievers will not be able to hear what God is saying to them. Please Read 1Corinthians 2:6-16–this helps explain it better.
