“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1 (NKJV)
How can one even look about without seeing God’s glory? It can only be because the heart is heavy, the soul in torment, and therefore the eyes are closed to it. Because of this, one will very easily lose any inspiration they may have enjoyed.
When God created the earth, he also created the sun and the moon. He created the beautiful blue seas, and the clouds in the sky. He brought us beauty in the form of flowers and trees, and all kind of plants. And we must not forget the animals, the squirrels, the bunnies and the lovely birds who sing their joy to us on a clear, sunny morning.
I have the wonderful joy of being able to work from my home most days. My desk is right beside the french doors that open onto our back yard. I am often able to hear the most interesting, and inspiring, noises from outside. One day I remember in particular. I heard a train whistle, and then the sound of the train itself rolling along on the tracks. Then I heard cars driving, from a distance, since our street is pretty quiet. At the same time, I could hear birds singing. All of this made me think about how peaceful and quiet my direct surroundings were, but how there was life all around me, the same yet somehow different, close yet distant. And God was behind it all.
There is something to be said for enjoying nature. It can be a refreshing, exciting, and simply lovely place to spend some time. It doesn’t always mean long hikes, or even driving so far away as the mountains, or the sea. If we will relax a bit, look around us, and allow God to open our eyes, we will always be able to see the greatness of what He has created. He had a higher purpose, but one of the benefits, and you can bet He knew it as He was designing it, is the blessing it is to those who abide in it.
Just like God created Jesus, He also created each of us. When we get so wrapped up in our daily lives, our trials, our difficulties, our busyness, we fail to find the inspiration that He also created, and put within each of us. If we are not inspired, we are like dead wood. We cannot envision how wonderful our lives really are, how beautiful our physical world is, and often, how marvelous our God is.
Jesus is Our Hope. If there is anything or anyone who can inspire us, it is Him. He, after all, died for us and rose up out of the grave for us. He came to earth as a miracle baby, sweet and precious, yet the King of Kings, the Savior of the world. There is no greater hope than Him. God gave us His Son, whom He loved above all things. Yet He loved us enough to give Him. The miracle of creation, of inspiration, of love, of joy–Jesus is the culmination of all of that, and so much more.
When you feel like you are drifting, uninspired, just walk outside, look out a window, or turn on some soothing music. Behold God’s glory. Look at the face of Jesus, and there find perfect inspiration. There is no other being who can bring the inspiration to our hearts and our souls like Jesus.
“In everything, both great and small, we see the hand of God in all.” Helen Steiner Rice
