‘The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.’ Psalm 119:130 (NIV)
God’s Word is Him. He reveals Himself to us all through the very scripture He inspired. Just as we see Him in nature, in other people, and in ourselves, His Word speaks to us in ways that will cause wonder..if you allow it.
Sometimes we all just read the verses. We don’t really identify, we don’t absorb, we don’t get it. But when we pray, and apply what we read to our lives, God gives us the understanding in the verse. It’s not the understanding of man; it’s not the understanding of our own accord, meaning what we want it to mean. It’s the understanding that comes from our Lord, who knows what we need, when we need it, and how we are to receive it. With that understanding comes the Light of the World, showing us how we are to live.
I refer to God’s Word often as Living Word. That is not because man told me to believe it. It’s because I have experienced its life myself. I regularly reread the same verses, books, Psalms, and Proverbs, because they have touched my heart in some way. What amazes me is when I reread a verse I read last month, or last year, and today it has an entirely different meaning to me. I see something new, and exciting, in it. I actually see where God meant me to understand, today. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but today. Today that verse will add something new and necessary to my life. It changes constantly, along with our knowledge, and with our circumstances. If we will stop, read, ponder, and listen, we will be rewarded with nuggets of truth to help us in life, and to enrich our relationship with our Father, with the Savior, and with the Holy Spirit.
‘Because I love Your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.’ Psalm 119: 127-128 (NIV)
Loving God’s word means loving what it really says. When He grants us the understanding, then we must acknowledge that His precepts and teaching are right and true. He never leads His children astray. He does not allow contradiction into His instructions to us. Those who say that the Bible is full of contradictions are ones who have not received that understanding. We are to believe, and experience, God’s truthfulness, care, and love for us, and grow to realize all He says, all He does, is indeed good.
Today, take the time to read God’s Living Word. Gain understanding. Gain truth. Gain hope for your future. Because it is there, no matter what you are going through, no matter what your circumstances look like. He is goodness, light, and truth. He is who you need Him to be every single minute of your life. He is Our Hope, your Hope, my Hope. He is God.
‘Turn to me and have mercy on me, as You always do to those who love Your name.’ Psalm 119:132 (NIV)
