“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV)
Yes, God has indeed given us an indescribable gift! A gift of joy. A gift that keeps on giving. And His name is Jesus!
There never has been and there never will be a gift quite like this one. God knew what He would do from the very beginning. When He crafted His perfect plan, He knew His Son would be gifted to the world. And because of this, if we have come to know Him, then we have received the essence and the embodiment of something so wonderful that it truly cannot be adequately described.
Such should be our gratitude as well. Indescribable! When we receive Jesus, we are filled with indescribable joy. Because of this gift, we should also be filled with indescribable thankfulness. And everything about us, all we do or say, should be touched with this gratitude, to the point that all our attitudes (and we all have many!) are suffused with thanksgiving that only comes from total surrender to the Lord Jesus, our Savior.
This Thanksgiving Day and weekend should be a time of peace, generosity, gratefulness and joy. It is a time to spend with our families, our friends, our churches. Celebrate with dinners and treats and football and parades. But let us never forget to spend some of this time in deep conversation with Our Hope. Without Him, we would never be thankful. Without Him, we would walk alone, and be lonely. With Him, we not only have hope, we have all we will ever need. He is our provision, our strength, our wisdom, and most of all, He is the closest friend we will ever know.
Our Hope has given us life eternal, and life abundant here on earth. One day we will all dwell with Him in heaven and we will never feel pain or shed a tear or know what heartbreak is ever again. We will only know joy, indescribable joy!
Give thanks today, tomorrow, and the day after that. Keep sharing the gift that keeps on giving, Jesus. You need not wrap Him up or put a bow on Him; simply the truth of His love is all you need to give this gift. But remember always to be grateful, and allow your various attitudes to be permeated with your thanksgiving. And be sure to share that thanksgiving with the one who has given you much to be thankful for, Our Hope, Jesus the Christ.
“Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:20.
Make a list of the things you are thankful for, and then share it with Jesus. He will be pleased, and you will enjoy the act of sharing your joy with Him! God bless, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
