“Every Good and perfect gift comes from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
Does change give you cause for concern? It does me! Often I will balk at the possibility of change, but once I quiet down and pay attention, then God shows me I have no reason to fear.
Change is a part of life, just like breathing is a part of staying alive. It can be good, or it can be bad. But no matter how change may present itself, it will exist. And we will have to learn to either accept it and deal with it, or not.
In the past three years, I have had to face this constant thing called change. I lost my mother, or rather, heaven gained an angel. This loss broke my heart, but it strengthened my conviction that Jesus is with us right to the end, as I watched certain changes in my mom her last few hours on this earth. He was there, He was waiting for her, He carried her off. It was as evident as the dim light in the room, as the sound of the nursing staff moving around. He was there.
Shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with cancer. I had surgery and treatment and I did well, considering what cancer does to a person. It is hard to accept, it is hard to plan and function daily, and it is hard to go through the medical information, appointments, procedures. But I did it, and once again, Jesus was there. I could feel Him.
Because God loves us so very much, He sent His only Son, Jesus the Christ, to come and be with us. Jesus loves us so much that He did what His Father told Him to do, which was to die on the cross to redeem each of us from our sins, and to bear that sin on His own shoulders, that we might be forgiven and have life eternal. And life eternal is not just life. It is life in the presence of the Holy Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit of God. It is life surrounded with our loved ones who have gone on before, and who will come after us. It is the very promise of God.
So do not be afraid of change. Embrace it when you can, and when you can’t, pray that Jesus will comfort you, and then help you to find your way to acceptance. And in those times when the change that is coming is not good, pray for Jesus to show you how to live with it, yet still stand on the principles our Lord has taught us. He has given us this special gift called change. He is Our Hope, He loves us, and He Himself will never change!
Blessings!
