I still remember when I left my family that day,
thinking that I could do well in my own way.
Everything seemed to be going well initially.
feeling I had control while spending maliciously.
It was then I soon realized “me, myself, and I”
had begun to take center stage in my life.
Finding satisfaction in “things” was only temporary,
as everything around, seemed to be so contrary.
Just when I did not think my life could get any worse,
a drought began throughout the world, feeling like a curse!
Food became scarce in every continent on earth,
causing people to flounder for food where they were.
Even my “elite” living had reached an all-time low.
Having wasted all I had, leaving me with nowhere to go.
After working a couple of weeks feeding the hogs,
my hunger got the best of me, as I began to eat their slop!
Having had enough of trying to do things “my way,”
I finally “saw the light,” realizing I had made a big mistake.
Making my way back home, I had a lot of time to think.
How my family would take me back made my heart sink.
Not knowing if I had the strength to walk one more step,
the shadow of my dad, caught sight of me instead.
Seeing him running towards me as we saw one another,
his excitement in his embrace was like no other!
However, my heart was racing not expecting this!
In a somber tone, I said, “Sir, I don’t deserve this!”
As he looked into my eyes that day, I never will forget.
He tearfully replied, “I’m just glad that you’re not dead!”
*Based on The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)
The moral of this parable – Just because we may not be able to forgive ourselves at the time, does not mean He will not forgive us.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Linda,
So beautiful – such a good reminder of the Father’s unconditional love for us
Thank you.
God Bless~
