Christians Facing The 2024 US Election

Chaos!  Confusion!  Lawsuits and Trials!  Assassination attempt!  Switch of presidential candidates!  Accusations!  Who do you believe?

The Never-Trumpers would have you believe this election is all about Trump. It’s not.  They would advocate that he should not even be a candidate because of his past moral failings.  The sad issue about American politics today is that it is hard to find many candidates for any office that practice moral purity.  If you eliminate Trump for this reason, logically, you should reject many other candidates for the same reason.

Ideally, we would like candidates for any office to be Bible believers, morally and ethically responsible, a solid family man or woman, strong against evil, passionate for righteousness, and intense in patriotism.  Candidates like this are hard to find.  However, some candidates claim to meet those qualifications this year.  I hope they do.

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34).  This nation was founded on that concept.  Much of our constitution and laws were based on the principles Moses wrote about, especially in Exodus and Deuteronomy.  Scriptures were engraved on many of our public buildings.  But in today’s wisdom, many reject those concepts and principles.  Violence, dishonesty, immorality, and disrespect are rampant.

Paul described our times well when he wrote about the “last days.” “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

The only real solution to today’s dilemma is for a genuine, God-sent revival.  As born-again Christians, we must repent of our worldliness, materialism, selfishness, and lax moral standards.  We must genuinely love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds and shine as bright lights in this sin-darkened world.

So, what do we do, as voting citizens, in the 2024 election?  How do we decide?  We must vote not just by candidate or political party but on principles.  Sadly, there is a vast chasm between the principles and practices of the two dominant political parties today.  The USA is at a crossroad that could destroy our nation.  Among many critical issues to be considered by Christians this year, I have chosen just three:

Right to Life vs. Pro-Choice or Pro-death

In 2023, there were an estimated 1,026,700 abortions, according to the pro-choice research organization Guttmacher Institute.  That is the highest number in over a decade. To the pro-choice person, that may sound great, but to the Christian, it is horrible news.

The Bible teaches, “Thou shalt not kill (murder). (Exodus 20:13 KJV).  Genesis 9:6 states, “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” God created human beings (male and female) in the image of God.  Whoever destroys a human being is committing murder.  God mandated capital punishment for the person who kills an innocent human being.

God’s view of the pre-born child is given in Psalm 139:13-16. “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

Jeremiah expresses his calling from God even before he was born. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”  (Jeremiah 1:5). Even at conception, God knows the living soul in the womb.

Pro-choice advocates are defending the rights of a woman over her own body.  Pro-life advocates are defending the lives of unborn infants who are given no choice at all.

As we face election time, we should ask who is promoting the pro-choice, pro-death agenda.  An AP news article answers that question.

Freedom of Religion

Anti-Christian and anti-Bible acts of hostility in the United States have increased drastically in the last few years.  Follow this link to see some recent cases handled by the American Center of Law and Justice.  The ACLJ is just one of many Christian legal firms handling these types of cases.  They all have a full docket of cases they are litigating.

Christians are hauled into court, sued, or even jailed for simply speaking their heart on Christian issues, praying in public, expressing a Christian stand on Facebook, or holding a Bible study.  A Christian baker was sued because he refused to bake and decorate a cake celebrating a homosexual wedding.  It went all the way to the Supreme Court, where he won.  Christians intending to vote should search out who is behind these anti-Christian efforts.

Transgenderism, men competing in women’s sports, young boys in girls’ locker rooms. 

What a movement! – and utterly contrary to God’s Word.  God created male and female only.  Men transitioned to women – in their mind, do have a distinct advantage over women athletes.  Young boys – who think they are girls, put young girls in danger.  Who is behind these movements?  Where do politicians stand on these issues?  Those who would like to work in Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign are given an option of nine pronoun choices to accommodate transgenderism.

These are just a few of the issues to consider today.  Other important issues include the economy,  borders, Israel, the Second Amendment, Socialism, the dollar, Nationalism, Taxes, freedom of speech, government spending, crime, and military strength. Where do you stand?  How will you vote?  Make sure that you do vote!

The stakes are very high this year.  If the wrong party gains control of the presidency, the House, and the Senate, America could change drastically next year.  America, as we know it, could be gone.
