For those who don’t already know, I am a foreigner in China, and am surrounded by thousands of Chinese every day, they have welcomed me and take me as one of their own.

Although there are over 1 billion Chinese in China itself, there are millions in virtually every country in the world. You may work with some of them, live next door to one of them or have them in your college/university class.

尽管在中国本土有超过10亿的华人，在世界上的每一个国家几乎都有数百万的华人。也许你的同事、你的邻居和你的同学就是华人。

There are many thousands of Chinese churches, here is a plea to all pastors, co-operate with these Chinese churches, each of you has so much to learn from each other.

世界上有数以千计的华人教会。我在这里向所有的牧师呼吁，你们应该与华人教会合作，华人教会和西人教会应当彼此学习。

So, how can you and your church reach out to those Chinese in your community:

More than ever Chinese people are travelling and indeed settling in new countries to find a better life, they need reaching, this is an open door.

许多中国人现在出国旅游或者出国定居，以寻求更高品质的生活。他们需要被基督的福音得着，而这是一扇敞开的门。

First of all, we must pray for opportunities, the last thing, they need is to be preached at, they need to be treated with empathy and compassion. It is very traumatic and difficult to come to a new country, with a new culture and language.

Food is a great access point for many Chinese, so for a church or an individual, learn to cook authentic Chinese food, such as Chinese dumplings called Jiaozi (recipe below)

Although your Chinese friends may enjoy a meal from the local Chinese take away, they will enjoy it more, if you cook the food yourself, this may take time, but it is worth it.

尽管你的中国朋友可能更喜欢吃当地的中餐馆的外卖，如果你能够亲自下厨更好。虽然会更耗时间，但是你的中国朋友会更喜欢你自己做的中国菜，所以这样做值得。

Have a Chinese themed evening, especially around the Chinese New Year, Qingming festival and National day holidays. This is when Chinese people are feeling alone and missing their homeland. This is a great opportunity to reach them.

你可以举办一个中华主题的晚宴，在中国农历新年前后举办，或者在清明节或者其它传统节日前后举办。在海外的华人在中国的传统节日通常会比较想家，感到孤单。这是向他们表达关心的好时机。

Many Chinese arrive with limited language skills, if you church is large enough, start an English course for them. Also, they may need furnishings for the house and food, this is practical hands and feet Christianity- (pot, non-stick pan, plates, chopsticks, blankets, clothe hangers, etc.).

许多华人来到外国生活的时候，语言能力有限。如果你的教会足够大，可以给他们开办英语课程。他们也许也会需要家具、厨具。基督徒可以通过赠送一些生活用品向新来的华人表达爱心。（锅碗瓢盆、被子衣架等等）

You may have a Chinese family in your church, ask them to help you, many western churches are filled with white people, this is not right, the church is made up of every nation and every color, culture and creed, you need to have a church that reflects God’s heart.

在你们的教会也许有一个中国的家庭。你可以让他们帮忙出出主意。许多西方的教会全是白人，这不好，教会应该是由各族各民各方的人、各种文化的人组成的。你的教会应该彰显上帝的心意- 让万人得救，明白真道。

If you have a Chinese meal, invite a local Chinese Christian family/minister to share the gospel at the meal. If you enjoy BBQ which I know many do, invite your Chinese friends.

如果你举办一个中式晚宴，要求一个当地的华人基督徒家庭或者华人牧师一起参加来向客人传讲福音。如果你喜欢举办烧烤，也可以邀请你的中国朋友参加。

Another idea is to take them out to a scenic spot, they are very interested in the history of the country, they have come to.

另外一个办法是带他们去一些景点。他们也许对你们国家的风土人情感兴趣。

If you have a table tennis table in your basement -and not all do -invite them to play you. They may beat you senseless, but again this is a way to reach them.

如果你家里的地下室有乒乓球桌子，你可以邀请他们来打乒乓球。他们会打赢你，但是这也是一种接触他们的方式。

Chinese tourists are now seen all over the world, the Chinese have a rich history, but they are fascinated by other countries history and culture. When I was young, it was the American voices we saw at British beauty spots, then the Japanese, now it’s the Chinese, again this is an open door.

中国游客目前遍满天下。中华文化源远流长，但是中国人现在也对外国的历史文化感兴趣。当我年轻的时候，英国有许多美国游客，后来是日本游客，而现在是中国游客。这也是一扇敞开的门。

Many Chinese want to go the major cities such as London, New York and Paris to mention three, there are churches there who can reach them. Don’t be nervous about reaching out.

许多中国人喜欢到大城市比如伦敦、纽约、巴黎去旅游。这些城市中的教会也可以去接触中国游客。这些都是好机会，不需要感到害羞。

Sure, you need the correct literature, but the missing links are passion for the lost souls and the compassion to share the gospel. You also need to know the Bible and Chinese culture, so please co-operate with Chinese churches in planning outreach.

当然，你需要好的福音小册子。但是更重要的是对失丧灵魂的爱心，以及传扬福音的热心。你也应该明白圣经和中国文化，所以在向华人传福音的时候需要和华人教会合作。

I have a heart for the Chinese, I live amongst them every day, I want to see as many as possible come to faith. This article is to give ideas so that you can reach out to them also.

My friend David is a Chinese national and lives and studies in the USA, I asked him to say a few words about how to reach Chinese people who live in foreign countries, here are his brilliant insights, hear from a Chinese person, thanks David.

Hi Keith:

As to your question about how to reach overseas Chinese, I think the first step is to build trust and relationships through events and activities, then we could invite them over to Bible studies held at home or at church. That’s how I became a Christian. I really enjoyed the potluck food in the church.

The overseas Chinese church that I used to go to have welcome parties for new students, potlucks, BBQs, hiking, apple picking and other events to attract new people. Sometimes they also host seminars on job search. And the church gives out things for free for new immigrants such as blankets, pots and kitchen utensils.

Then we would invite them to Bible studies. I remember being really lonely one Christmas, and a Christian group on campus left me a bag of candy with a hand-written Bible verse attached to it: “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

I was so touched and moved that someone cared enough to put the bag of candy at my door that I kept one of the candies, uneaten, for years. And I still kept that Bible verse note. That’s how much the little gift bag meant to me.
