Nehemiah 10:39  For the people of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the contribution of grain, wine, and oil to the chambers, where the vessels of the sanctuary are, as well as the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. Nehemiah is one of my favorite books. It is a master class on how to rebuild what is broken down, and how to endure persecution from the enemy.

The returning exiles were making a covenant with the Lord in Nehemiah 10:29-31. These words are a fitting climax to their commitment to the covenant. This is a tremendous statement and one they took very seriously!  As Christians, there is something we can learn from their conviction, and commitment to care for the house of God.

Beloved, do you neglect the house of God?  Have you ever done any of the things below?

So often the people of God are flippant and careless in the house of God. It is not a social club; it is a holy place, where God meets with His people. Church attendance may not be mandatory, but it is compulsory. If you are a Christian, you will long to be in God’s house. Look at David, especially in Psalms 27 and 84. Look at the early church and the example of Jesus in the closing verses of Luke 2. He had a reverence for God’s house.

Going to church on Sunday is one thing you should do. It’s the only thing that is really important on the Lord’s day; and remember, once you arrive, you are first and foremost to meet with God, not your friends.
