2 Kings 6

15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, alas, my master! how shall we do?

16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Are you in a situation like Elisha and Gehazi? Do you feel overwhelmed? Like there is no way out?

In this passage, Elisha looked through the eyes of faith; Gehazi looked through the eyes of fear.

Note some things here:  Elisha rose early. Early morning prayer and communion with God is the best time to experience Gods presence, and if you are looking to have a good day, start it off with a time of worship and fellowship with almighty God.

Elisha encouraged Gehazi with the words, “Fear Not.” Gehazi viewed the situation through the lens of fear, something that most of us tend to do when confronted with a problem that appears to be too great for us to overcome.  Gehazi uses the word Alas, when we say that in English it’s like, Oh! What’s going to become of us? We are doomed! He was very discouraged and thought that there was no hope in this situation.  When the coronavirus hit, a lot of people were saying, “alas!”  But we know that God is greater than any foe, and when we trust Him, we move from fear to faith.

It says that Elisha prayed.  And his prayer is a lesson for you and I to consider when facing our own trials. Elisha prayed,

Lord, I pray thee, open his (Gehazi) eyes, that he may see.’

So often when we encounter believers who are overwhelmed, counsel may not be effective because they are paralyzed by fear. The best thing to do in that case is not to argue or become frustrated, but to pray and ask God to open their eyes. This is a prayer that God is pleased to answer. Not only will He open their eyes, He will open up a way for them to escape and overcome every trial.

When in trouble-pray like Elisha. “Lord, open my eyes that I may see.”
